The palynological record of the beach forests (the coastal Kerangas) which develop in sandy coastal areas, is limited by the coarse grained nature of the associated deposits which offer little opportunity for palynomorph preservation.
Pollen producers of the coastal Kerangas typically include Hibiscus, Thespesia, Casuarina and Barringtonia. Only Thespesia is completely limited to the coastal Kerangas environment.
