BSP & Petrofes Hope To Boost Local Youth Employment With ‘Made By Bruneians’ PPE

November 5, 2020

As part of its efforts to further develop our local entrepreneurs, a signing ceremony for the production of Fire Retardant Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) made by Bruneians was held between Brunei Shell Petroleum Co. Sdn Bhd (BSP) and its latest supplier, Petrofes Sdn Bhd, this afternoon at BSP Headquarters.

Present at the event were Agnete Johnsgaard-Lewis BSP Managing Director and Shell Country Chair in Brunei, Rob Van Velden BSP Finance Director and Haji Osmera bin Haji Othman BSP Head of HSE & Security.

Petrofes - a local company actively involved in the trading and retail business – will produce and supply ‘Made By Bruneians’ Fire-Retardant PPE including coveralls, tudongs and balaclavas to BSP.

In her welcoming remarks, BSP’s In-Country Value Manager Hjh Rosita Hj Hassan said this collaboration with Petrofes is part of BSP’s commitment to People and Country that supports the growth of local companies. Through this partnership, there is a high potential for Petrofes to expand their clientele in the future.

“The Brunei Shell Joint Venture companies and their business partners are the biggest private sector group in the oil and gas industry in the country. The demand for PPE like coveralls is potentially high in this sector”, added Hjh Rosita. She elaborated that there is potential to create more employment opportunities for Bruneians to produce the PPE here in the country.

“I have asked a few major business partners, if they are willing to buy locally made coveralls, and so far, we have received a very encouraging response” stated Hjh Rosita in her speech. “What is important to these companies are that the products meet the required quality standards and are competitively priced,” she continued.

Effendi Hj Said, the Managing Director of Petrofes Sdn Bhd, was grateful for this new opportunity and collaboration with BSP. “As a new player in the industry, we are excited to become one of the robust local companies that help stimulate economic growth in the country through employing local to manufacture our coveralls, tudongs and balaclavas,” said Effendi.  Petrofes also hopes to train more Bruneians in acquiring the necessary skills to work in the PPE manufacturing industry.
