The Brunei Shell Joint Venture (BSJV) group of companies held a contract signing event at the V-Plaza Ballroom on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. This year, scholarships were awarded to 10 outstanding students who will be pursuing higher education in Brunei Darussalam and the United Kingdom in the field of Engineering (Chemical and Electrical) and Data Science.

In her opening remarks, Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd’s Head of Talent, Bruneianisation and Management Information, Yang Mulia Mizan Adiliah Haji Mohamad Deli highlighted the importance of recognising the rapidly changing world, and the urgent need to build strong foundation of knowledge and experience in our future leaders to ensure that they can contribute significantly to Brunei’s bright future.

“To our esteemed scholars, this scholarship is more than just an acknowledgment of your past accomplishments. It is a testament to the immense potential we see within you. We believe that with your talent and drive, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our beloved Brunei and in realising the country’s vision of Wawasan 2035,” she further added.
Scholarship recipient Shannon Lau Wei Xuan, who will be pursuing Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Manchester expressed her gratitude on receiving the scholarship.
“I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to BSJV for awarding me with this very prestigious scholarship. It is an opportunity that I will not take lightly, and I will make the very best out of it. After completing my course, I look forward to coming back to Brunei, and hopefully be able to bring back the lessons and innovations that I have learnt overseas, to contribute my part towards Wawasan 2035.”
Mohammad Haziq bin Mohammad Shahrin, who will be undertaking Mechanical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Brunei, looked forward to making the most of his studies.
“I am excited to not only learn my core study, but to participate in activities – inside and outside classroom – and prepare myself for the future.”

Established in 1972, the BSJV Scholarship program has ran for over five decades. To date, over 800 scholarships have been awarded to young Bruneians the opportunity to pursue higher education at local and overseas institutions.
