April 6, 2020

This morning, 6th April 2020, Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) and Brunei Shell Marketing Company Sdn Bhd (BSM) handed over contributions to the Ministry of Health as part of the COVID-19 relief efforts.

The first contribution was in the form of fuel vouchers for the use of Medical Emergency/Critical vehicles, services under the Ministry of Health. These fuel vouchers were handed over to Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health by Awang Muhammad Norshafiee bin Dato Paduka Hj Abdul Jalil, Managing Director of BSM and Dr Ceri M. Powell, Managing Director of BSP.

Awang Muhammad Norshafiee stated “I am extremely proud of BSM staff for raising money internally for this unique initiative to provide fuel for the healthcare workers on the frontlines of the COVID-19 outbreak. While we provide fuel for the nation, the healthcare workers are working extremely hard in  protecting and guiding us through this pandemic.”   Dr Ceri M Powell then handed over BSP staff’s donation to purchase hospital beds for the newly built National Isolation Centre in Tutong. Under the #BSPCares initiative, BSP launched the #100beds campaign which received tremendous response from staff. Altogether staff have raised donations worth 110 beds, exceeding the 100 beds target.

“We launched the #100beds campaign on 31 March 2020 intending it to last two weeks, and within 24 hours we surpassed the 100 beds target. It is heart-warming that BSP staff are supporting the public in Care initiatives as well as providing Energy for the Nation.  I am also delighted that all our BSJV companies, namely BSP, BSM and BLNG, together with BGC are supporting the Ministry of Health in many ways in this challenging time,” said Dr. Powell.

At the event, BSM under its #BSMCares Campaign also presented donations from BSM staff in the forms of scrubs, whiteboards, shampoo, anti-bacterial soaps and hand sanitizers to support the frontliners in their day to day activities to #flattenthecurve.   The handover ceremony took place at Al-Afiah Hall at the Ministry of Health, respecting social distancing.
