On Tuesday, June 27, 2023, the Brunei Energy Industry Integrity Pact (BEIIP) held a recognition event to welcome 20 additional companies onboard into their network. The signing ceremony, which was the first event organised face-to-face by BEIIP since the pandemic, saw the participation of over 60 organisations at Tarindak D’Seni. Present as the Guest of Honour was Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (R) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Minister of Defence II.

In his opening remark, Mr. Kannan Govindasamy, the Chairman of the working committee, emphasised how it was integral to sustain trust in all parties.

“It is our duty as an industry to lead by example by having good governance to combat corruption. Senior business leaders must start demonstrating business integrity. Tone from the top is very important and leaders must walk the talk. In an age of corporate mistrust and digitalization, trust itself is not good enough, but we also must verify hence due diligence is very important who we are doing business with.”

The signing event was followed by a panel discussion between industry leaders on “Building an Effective Corporate Anti-bribery and Corruption Programme”, featuring Agnete Johnsgaard-Lewis, Brunei Shell Petroleum Managing Director; Farida Talib, Brunei LNG Managing Director; Manuel Bulens, Baiduri Bank Deputy CEO, Compliance, Corporate Governance and Legal Support; and Encik Azizi bin Md Ali, Petronas Chief Compliance Officer.
