Shell CEO Visits Brunei to Strengthen Strategic Partnerships
Mr. Wael Sawan, Chief Executive Officer of Shell Plc was in Brunei Darussalam from 12th to 14th January 2026. One of the objectives of the visit was to strengthen strategic partnerships in the country and engage key stakeholders in the Sultanate.
The visit underscores Shell’s established presence in Brunei and reflects its continued focus on strengthening partnerships, supporting energy security, and advancing sustainable growth in line with national priorities.
During his time in Brunei, Mr Sawan visited the Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) Head Office in Seria and Brunei LNG (BLNG) in Lumut – two of the companies under the Brunei Shell Joint Venture (BSJV) network.
He took part in several engagements, including the monthly leadership meetings, which focused on performance discussions and the respective company goals and strategies for the year. Mr Sawan also had sessions with the diverse leaders and talents from BSP and BLNG – representing the companies’ intentional investments in leadership development and capability building, playing a critical role in strengthening leadership across the organisation so both the company and its people can thrive and perform at their best.
Mr. Sawan engaged leaders and employees through an open, two-way exchange that encouraged dialogue, reflection and shared understanding. The engagements also created space to reflect on the respective BSJV companies performance journey, while recognising collective achievements, and considering challenges and opportunities within the broader energy landscape.
Shell in Brunei
Shell has been present in Brunei since 1929 and has played an important role in the development of the Sultanate’s energy sector. Together, Shell and the Government of Brunei have invested in four Integrated Joint Ventures, from upstream exploration and production to LNG production and shipping to fuel distribution and supply, serving the country’s energy needs across the oil and gas value chain namely through: Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP), Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd (BLNG), Brunei Shell Marketing Sdn Bhd (BSM) and Brunei Gas Carrier Sdn Bhd (BGC). Shell also has interests in two other upstream offshore oil and gas ventures in the country.
