May 27, 2019

A new adventure is now underway for five local start-ups – VisionaryCrew Project, Battlepro Marketing and Management Services, S.B. Kani Company, Jezemm Services and Khayla Zalzi Company – as they signed their first contracts with Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) under the i-Usahawan programme today (Monday, May 27, 2019) in the BSP Head Office.

VisionaryCrew Project will provide creative design for BSP; BattlePro Marketing and Management Services will support event management services; S.B. Kani Company will provide grass cutting services, ditch cleaning and regrading services for non-hydrocarbon areas; Jezemm Services will create landscaping, maintenance and horticulture for BSP nonhydrocarbon areas; and Khayla Zalzi Company will be focussed on Recycling Waste Management. The five contracts will last a minimum of three years with potential extensions.

In her welcoming remarks, Dr Ceri M. Powell, BSP Managing Director shared that Brunei Shell Petroleum is proud to play its part in supporting the i-Usahawan programme. “People and Country is a key priority for BSP. We are forging ahead in support of the vison of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to encourage more youth to participate in entrepreneurship, through delivering innovative ways to develop the capability of Bruneian talent and businesses”.

A youth entrepreneur development initiative by the Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry (MEMI), the i-Usahawan programme offers the opportunity for local budding business owners to earn their first low-risk contract with the Government, Government-Linked Companies (GLC) or Statutory Bodies, essentially to help and support the young Bruneian entrepreneurs to start, own and grow their own business.

Targeting young aspiring entrepreneurs and Bruneian business owners between 18 to 40years-old, the i-Usahawan programme in Brunei Shell Joint Venture (BSJV) Companies, helps provide a platform for start-up companies to secure their first BSJV contract. Experienced business mentors will be assigned to the participants throughout the contract period. Through this mentoring and sharing of expertise and knowledge, BSP intends that the i-Usahawan companies can widen their horizons and further develop their business in the oil and gas industry or beyond. These companies will also have access to the BSJV Credit Facility Programme through Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), Baiduri Bank or Bank Ushawan.
