BSP Celebrates International Women's Day 2021

Brunei Shell Petroleum Co. Sdn Bhd (BSP) commemorated International Women’s Day (IWD) yesterday on the 8th of March at the BSP Head Office in Seria.
 
In line with the IWD global theme ‘Choose to Challenge’, BSP celebrated the significant day by organising a forum to recognise women in the workplace and the contributions they have made in powering progress for women in the energy industry and beyond.
 
In the opening remarks, Hajah Zainab M.A Omar, BSP Human Resources Director, an individual that is very much in the forefront whom strongly advocates for coaching and mentoring Bruneian youths, reiterated the importance of the event and continuing the dialogue of women’s empowerment in the workplace. She highlighted BSP’s commitment in providing an open and safe space for women to feel empowered to speak up and choose to challenge.
 
At the event, BSP featured a panel of esteemed speakers, namely Agnete Johnsgaard-Lewis, Managing Director of BSP and Shell Country Chair in Brunei, and guest speakers Pg. Dr. Noor Affizan Pg. Hj Abd Rahman, Deputy Medical Superintendent of Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah Hospital, Tutong and Noorhafizah Rashid, founder of BIG BWN Project.
 
The speakers shared their experience on ‘Choosing to Challenge’ and provided guidance on creating an open and inclusive workplace. They also shared with the audience the women that they find inspiring and the qualities that these women possess that have become a source of inspiration.
 
The forum concluded with a presentation by Women In focus Network of BSP on the programmes and events being organized in 2021.
 
International Women’s Day
 
Every year, The International Women’s Day is celebrated globally on March 8. It is a significant day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. Since its inauguration in 1911, significant activity has been witnessed globally as groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements and promote gender parity.
 
Women In focus Network (WIN)
 
Women In focus Network is a volunteer organisation in BSP established in 2011. With the aim to cultivate a strong support network that enables a sustained cycle of female leaders to deliver excellence. WIN’s mission is to connect women not only across BSP but also Brunei Shell Joint Venture (BSJV) employees in Brunei to address barriers to success and achieve an inclusive organisation.
