To mark the significant milestone of the 50th Anniversary of Champion, Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP)
held a Doa Kesyukuran ceremony at the Ash-Shaliheen Mosque on Saturday, March 26, 2022. This kicks off the
celebration for the golden jubilee of Champion oilfield’s (Champion) first production. The event was graced by Yang
Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, the Deputy Minister of Energy as the Guest of Honour.
The ceremony first began with a mass Maghrib prayer, followed by a mass Sunat Hajat prayer, the recital of Surah
Yaasiin, Tahlil and Doa Arwah. The ceremony concluded with the recital of Doa Kesyukuran, led by Yang Mulia Haji
Mohammad Izzat Izzuddin bin Begawan Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Haji Emran, the Imam of Ash-Shaliheen Mosque,
prior to the mass Isyak prayer.
BSP also presented a voluntary charitable endowment or “Waqaf” in the form of Yaasiin books to the mosque. This was
handed over by Yang Mulia Haji Md Azmi bin Haji Md Hanifah, the Deputy Managing Director and Commercial Director
of BSP to the Guest of Honour, Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw who proceeded to
present it to Yang Mulia Haji Mohammad Izzat Izzuddin bin Begawan Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Haji Emran, the Imam
of Ash-Shaliheen Mosque.
The event was held to signify gratitude for all the blessings and achievements that Champion has made over the past 50
years and pray for Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala’s continued blessings and protection for the well-being of Brunei
Darussalam, and for BSP and Champion to continue contributing towards the country’s social and economic development.
Discovered in 1970, Champion started producing in 1972 and has since been one of the main contributors of oil and
gas for BSP. As one of the largest oilfields and one of the oldest producing assets, Champion plays a critical role in
ensuring that BSP continues to deliver an uninterrupted supply of energy to the nation.
50 years on, Champion is still producing safely and responsibly, supporting BSP as the energy provider for Brunei and
will continue to do so in the decades to come.

Acting Interim Managing Director of Petroleum Authority Brunei Darussalam, members of BSP Board of Directors, Brunei
Shell Joint Venture (BSJV) companies’ Managing Directors, BSP leadership team and staff.
